A 69-year-old West Point man is at the center of an investigation into the murder of his 48-year-old son.
Walter Raymond McClure is currently being held in the Clay County Jail charged with murder. He”s suspected of shooting his son, Michael “Shane” McClure, to death around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
West Point police officers were dispatched to 507 Converse Drive Saturday night following a report of shots fired. They arrived to find Walter McClure “laying across his son” in the driveway. Officers had to pull Walter McClure away from his son”s body so paramedics could treat Michael McClure.
Michael McClure was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center- West Point where he was later pronounced dead due to injuries from multiple gunshot wounds. Walter McClure was arrested based on evidence gathered at the scene and was scheduled for arraignment today.
WPPD Detective Mike Burgess said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation. McClure will be interviewed again today to determine more details surrounding the shooting.
