CALEDONIA — The Caledonia Board of Aldermen continued making improvements to the town”s water system Tuesday night, voting in a special meeting to accept the lowest quote for water pipe extensions on Seed Tick and Stanley Roads. The work will be performed by Knight Labor at a cost of $14,217.
The aldermen also voted to pay J. Stewart and Associates $250 to remove a tree stump at the Caledonia Presbyterian Church property, which the town owns. A pecan tree fell on the church several weeks ago.
In other news, the board voted to allow water supervisor Benny Coleman to declare the department”s 1999 Dodge pickup as surplus property so it can be sold. Sealed bids will be accepted at the water department until June 24 at 3 p.m. The truck will be sold to the highest bidder.
In other business the board:
- Voted to allow a lot on Wolfe Road, at the old gin site property, to be subdivided.
- Voted to allow town attorney Jeff Smith to contact landowners and request easements for property adjacent to Ola J. Pickett Park for expansions and improvements.
- Voted to give thanks to God that no one was killed during the tornado, which ripped through Caledonia in 2008.
- Voted to recognize the Sassy Sluggers and Lady Razors softball teams for winning their district games.
