A trio of area men were arrested Monday by the Columbus Police Department on felony charges.
Thomas Lee Townsend, 42, of 3555 Doss Drive in West Point, was arrested shortly after 1:40 a.m. Monday and charged with one count of felony driving under the influence and misdemeanor charges of failure to obey a police officer.
The charges came after CPD officer Thomas Pearson noticed Townsend”s red Isuzu Pup driving on a curb while traveling north on Bluecutt Road. According to Pearson, the passenger side of Townsend”s vehicle was elevated on the curb while it was traveling along the road.
After Pearson stopped Townsend in the parking lot of the Huddle House near the intersection of Bluecutt Road and Military Road, Townsend exited the vehicle and attempted to enter the restaurant, despite Pearson ordering the suspect to stop.
Pearson then arrested Townsend and discovered the suspect was intoxicated, driving with a suspended driver”s license and had been charged with two prior DUI counts. After Townsend arrived at CPD headquarters, he refused to take an alcohol breath test and was transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
As of this morning, bond for the suspended driver”s license charge and the failure to obey charge was set at $1,183. No bond had been set for the DUI charge.
