The Hudco Superette gas station, at 5860 Highway 50 E., is closed this morning after an armed robber burst into the store around 8 a.m. and took an undisclosed amount of cash.
Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office Chief Deputy Greg Wright said a black male, wearing blue jeans and a black “hoodie” sweatshirt and holding a white T-shirt over his face, entered the store armed with a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the cashier. Wright did not know how much money was in the cash register at the time.
The suspect fled on foot and was last seen getting into the passenger side of a small black car, possibly a Honda or a Mazda, and traveling eastbound on Highway 50, toward the Alabama state line.
Wright said Lowndes County law enforcement is working closely with the Lamar and Pickens County sheriff”s departments to apprehend the suspect.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Department at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
