One man and one juvenile were arrested Tuesday in connection with the recent break-in and theft of two four-wheelers at Village Cycle Center.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff”s Office arrested Demetrio Poe, 18, of 2988 Rockhill Road in Starkville, along with a male juvenile whose name could not be released and charged both with two counts of grand larceny and two counts of attempted grand larceny stemming from a failed break-in attempt at Village Cycle Center.
Poe is being held at the OCSO jail on circuit court indictments stemming from a separate incident.
Poe and the juvenile accomplice allegedly broke into Village Cycle Center on July 18 and stole a white 2011 Suzuki Eiger valued at $6,200 and a 2011 Kawasaki 750 Brute Force valued at $8,500. Both are also allegedly involved in a break-in attempt at Village Cycle Center on July 17, which didn”t result in stolen property.
Both four-wheelers were recovered in a wooded-area in the Sessums community, OCSO investigator Brett Watson said.
Village Cycle Center owner Carl Ivey said Monday he discovered a hole cut into the chain-link fence that houses his showroom inventory behind the shop. The two four-wheelers had keys in the ignition.
Ivey said Monday the burglary of his shop was the first in seven years.
Both arrests occurred after OCSO received tips from community members about the whereabouts of the missing four-wheelers.
“The assistance of the citizens of Oktibbeha County was crucial in solving the crimes as quickly as we did,” Sheriff Dolph Bryan said. “The sheriff”s department has always enjoyed the support of citizens of this county and this is a good example of how law enforcement and the community can work together to make our county a safe place.”
