Starkville is finally moving forward with its master plan.
The Starkville Board of Aldermen Tuesday adopted the master plan originally tabled last week, as well as Phase 1 which will see the city construct a new, $8.4 million police station at the corner of Jackson Street and Highway 182.
The board also approved the resolution that calls for a citywide referendum on Sept. 27 for the Phase 1 millage increase.
Each item during the special called meeting was passed with a 5-2 vote, with Ward 7 Alderman Henry Vaughn and Ward 6 Alderman Roy A. Perkins voting against each item.
The board tabled the master plan at its regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 2 due to an incorrect property tax figure that made the new rates higher than expected. Phase 1 will add 3.49 mills to the current rate of 20 mills.
A mill is worth about $180,000 in the city of Starkville.
