A 20-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday, and her baby was placed in the care of the child”s grandmother after Columbus police officers responded to a 911 hang-up call and found a controlled substance on the premises.
Interim Police Chief Selvain McQueen said a 911 call was placed from 415 Peach St., but when officers arrived, they were met in the front yard by Rachael K. Mitchell, who told them no one was in the house and she was unable to gain entry.
Officers peered through the windows and saw a baby sleeping on a couch, which prompted them to search the premises more thoroughly, entering the home through an unlocked back door.
Once inside the house, police found a black, electronic scale and a pill in the baby bed. They also recovered a Lorcin 9mm handgun.
Mitchell was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
