Relatives and bystanders stood in shock this morning as the body of a man was carried from his Second Street South home.
Lucious Wilson, 66, was found dead in his backyard at approximately 8:17 a.m. Although the investigation is still under way, Columbus Police Cpl. Terrance Dentry said no foul play is suspected. Wilson was found still wearing his jewelry, with nearly $1,000 cash in his pocket.
He was a familiar sight to drivers in the Southside and downtown areas, said his nephew, Erise Wilson Jr.
He could often be seen walking the streets, carrying his favorite chair. A Vietnam veteran, he had recently been hospitalized at East Mississippi State Hospital in Meridian. His release came as a surprise to family members. The best they can tell, he was apparently trying to get into his home when he died.
“Everybody”s still just lost and confused,” Erise Wilson said.
“He was a good man,” added Lucious Wilson”s son, Lucious Wilson Jr.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Hattie Wilson, and four children, Sierra Wilson, Carrie Barry, Angela Bluitt and Lucious Wilson Jr.
