Columbus Police report two burglaries occurring during the Labor Day weekend, one also involving an assault of the resident of an occupied dwelling.
Police are investigating a burglary of an occupied dwelling and assault that occurred at a residence Saturday night at 424 Eighth St. S.
According to the victim, four black males entered the residence at around 10:15 p.m. and verbally and physically assaulted him.
“(The victim) said he was asleep and four black males who had their faces covered broke into his residence by way of a window located on the west side of his home,” Interim Police Chief Selvain McQueen said, noting the victim claims one of the intruders “hit him across his back four to five times.
“(The victim) says he was laying face down on the floor and one of the black males held a revolver to his head.”
McQueen said the intruders stole around $250 cash and a 10-inch hunting knife.
“It”s an ongoing investigation,” McQueen said.
Another burglary occurred Sunday morning at 2217 Fifth Ave N.
The victim said she returned home around 10 a.m. and found her front door opened, McQueen said.
“She found her dresser drawer opened, and the Bible was opened and they stole $170 from her Bible,” McQueen said, noting $47 also was missing from her wallet.
“Nothing else was disturbed,” he said.
