Local pastors can mark Thursday on their calendars.
Interim Chief Selvain McQueen and the Columbus Police Department scheduled a second crime forum for Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Municipal Court Complex.
An open forum was held Aug. 18, inviting local pastors to offer their thoughts on ways to fight crime in the area and make neighborhoods safer for residents.
Interim Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen said the first meeting was productive, and those in attendance brought good ideas to the table. Next week”s meeting will include plans for implementing the ideas.
Those who attended the first forum laid a few suggestions on the table ranging from implementing a joint task force to police speaking to children at Sunday School classes.
McQueen said around 40 people showed up to the first forum, and he expects more the second time around.
Also planned are meetings with neighborhood watch groups and residents, McQueen said.
“We”re going to get to that,” he said. “That”s coming.”
