Columbus police arrested six males and charged them with armed robbery and burglary of a dwelling after a woman claimed she was robbed at her residence late Thursday night.
Police arrested Demonta Dewayne Gardner, 18, of 917 11th Ave. S.; Bobby Adonis Bluitt, 18, of 609 South Gaywood Ave.; Tevin Rashad Oglen, 18, of 494 Dogwood Blvd.; Jeremy Billups, 17, of 412 E. Gaywood Ave.; Corey Jamar Lathan, 17, of 384 Long Drive; Michael Satterfield, 17, of 1622 Washington Ave. in the incident.
According to Columbus police officer Terrie Songer, the three juveniles will be charged as adults.
The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. at 320 Eighth St. N., at the Sandpiper Apartments. The victim told police she heard a knock on her door and thought it was her neighbor, Investigator George Harris said.
“Once she turned the lock, they busted in and rushed her and had a gun to her,” Harris said.
According to a press release from the Columbus Police Department, the subjects made the victim lie face down and cover her head with a blanket during the robbery. The press release states the subjects stole a flat screen television, a cordless phone, a cellular phone, various medications and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police spent the next 30-45 minutes searching the surrounding streets and avenues before pulling over a dark-colored vehicle at the 300 block of 11th Street North just before 11 p.m. Officers found the stolen items in the vehicle and took the subjects into custody.
Columbus police are still investigating a possible homicide that occurred next to the apartment complex almost two weeks ago. Tedd Thomas Wood, 35, of Columbus, was found dead at the 300 block of Eighth Street North on Sept. 18 at around 1:30 a.m.
