DUMAS, Miss. (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service will hold a public hearing Tuesday to get local residents’ reaction to proposed federal plans to close the Dumas Post Office.
Mayor Bradley Lawson says the meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Dumas Town Hall.
Post offices in Dumas and Tiplersville in Tippah County are on a list of 3,700 outlets the Postal Service wants to close nationwide in a cost-cutting move.
The post office announced in January it was reviewing offices for closing. Sixty-one of those sites are in Mississippi.
Coming under review doesn’t necessarily mean an office will close.
If an office is to be closed, local residents will be able to appeal to the independent Postal Regulatory Commission.
