MACON — Noxubee County sheriff’s deputies arrested James “Seymore” Dooley, 22, of 962 Cedar Creek Road in Macon, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Chief Deputy Terry Grassaree said.
Dooley turned himself in Sunday night, Grassaree said, noting he is still being held at the Noxubee County jail.
The arrest comes on the heels of two unrelated shootings at two clubs in Noxubee County during the weekend.
The first shooting started as a verbal confrontation at the former Que 5 Club on Cedar Creek Road in Macon some time between 11:30 p.m. Friday and midnight.
The business now is the Cedar Creek Pool Hall.
The incident ended with Edward Lathan shot twice, once in each arm.
Lathan was transported to Noxubee General Hospital after the incident and was released a few hours later, Grassaree said.
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating another shooting incident that occurred at a nightclub early Saturday morning. The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. at the Ponderosa Club, which is located off Highway 45, just south of Macon.
According to Grassaree, Gabriel Hill was shot twice, once in the torso and once in the arm.
It is unknown what caused the incident.
“We don’t know what kicked it off,” Grassaree said. “We just think it was the youngsters yipping and yapping at each other.”
“We do have a person of interest in the Ponderosa incident. We should have that worked out in the next couple of days,” Grassaree said.
Hill was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and released later, Grassaree said.
