A Starkville woman died Friday night following a vehicle collision with a logging truck that morning.
Jessie L. Brown, 65, was driving her 1995 Chevrolet Lumina southbound on Reed Road in Starkville when she failed to give the right-of-way to the 18-wheeler headed west on Highway 25 and struck the left side of the truck, according to police.
Brown was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where she died at 11 p.m. the same night.
As of Tuesday, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant had not determined a cause of death, according to Starkville Police Chief David Lindley.
Merchant could not be reached for comment this morning.
“She was alert and talking about how the accident occurred after it happened,” Lindley said. “We didn’t receive word of her death until Sunday.”
Police arrested the driver of the logging truck, 38-year-old Leander D. Fletcher of Kosciusko, for driving with a suspended driver’s license and without a tag and providing false information about his name.
