The Columbus-Lowndes Political Action Committee will hold its third and final political forum tonight at 6 p.m. at the Columbus Municipal Complex, giving voters a chance to hear two-minute speeches from candidates for the district 2 justice court judge’s seat, as well as those running for county prosecuting attorney and district attorney.
Following the speeches, a question and answer session will be held with candidates for chancery clerk, circuit clerk, county superintendent of education and the county Board of Supervisors.
The event will be broadcast live on CableOne Channel 3. Mississippi State University political science professor Marty Wiseman will serve as moderator, and CLOPAC board member Jimmy Galloway will give the introductory speech.
In June, the organization held a two-night forum to prepare voters for the primary election. The main purpose is to educate Lowndes County voters, said CLOPAC Chairman Beth Stuart.
“It is an opportunity for the candidates to come before the voting public to express their platform and their beliefs,” Stuart said Tuesday morning. “At the same time, it is an opportunity for the voters of Lowndes County to educate themselves about each candidate so they can come to their own decision as to who they believe would better lead our county.”
CLOPAC was established in 2003 to serve as a non-partisan way for citizens to “have an impact on the political issues affecting our community,” according to its mission statement.
The general election will be held Nov. 8.
