The Columbus Planning Commission Monday denied a request to operate a business out of a home.
Julia Burgin asked the commission to allow a tax service business in the rear portion of her home at 2006 Short Main St.
Burgin previously asked the commission to allow the tax service in a separate building on the property, but was denied.
The commission denied the request to allow the business on the property, which currently is zoned as an R-1 single family residential district, on the grounds the city’s current zoning chart prohibits businesses in a residential district. Burgin can take her request for consideration to the Columbus City Council Dec. 6.
In another matter, the commission approved a request from Delilah M. Williams to allow use of a portable building as an office at 305 Alabama St., for the business Safe Place Storm Shelters and Utility Buildings.
The business sells storage buildings, and the office will be housed in the same type of building. The property is in a C-3 highway commercial district.
