STARKVILLE — Mississippi State University’s Extension Service is offering a 2 1/2-day course for cotton, soybean and corn producers.
The Row Crop Short Course is from Dec. 5-7 at the Bost Extension Center. Registration is free until Nov. 25 and $40 per person after that.
Organizer Darrin Dodds says about 250 people had registered as of Thursday morning.
He says the first day will deal with insect control, the second mostly on fertilizer and other soil management, and the third on other issues including herbicides, seeding rates, bacterial blight, grain sorghum, the Farm Bill and current commodity markets.
“Our attendance numbers indicate that producers appreciate having an intense, three-day short course that covers the primary row crops grown in Mississippi,” Dodds said. More than 300 people attended last year’s event, he said.
A full schedule is planned Monday and Tuesday, with a half-day Wednesday.
Certified crop adviser continuing education credits will be available in pest management, crop management, nutrient management, soil and water management, and professional development. Consultant’s license renewals are available in entomology, plant pathology and weed control. Pesticide applicators can earn Category 1A and 10 recertification.
People who preregister get free lunch each day, a hog roast Monday evening and a steak and shrimp dinner on Dec. 6.
