Lowndes County deputies are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday night at Black Creek Grocery.
A call came in at around 9:30 p.m.reporting a black male wearing black clothing who showed a small gun and demanded money from the store clerk on duty.
According to Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright, the clerk was working the store alone and walked outside to check on some pumps and then walked to the side of the building.
“She said, at that time, a black male in all black clothing with a ski mask on threw her to the ground and demanded the keys to the store,” Wright said. “She told him the store was still open, and he directed her into the store, and once inside he demanded the money in the register and also the money in the safe.”
Wright said the person took the clerk back outside and “told her to go to the side of the building,” and then left the scene.
Witnesses on scene told deputies that he left the store, which is on Black Creek Road, and went behind the business before entering a dark vehicle.
The identity of the man is unknown, and Wright did not reveal how much money was stolen. Wright said other items were taken but did not give specifics..
Lowndes County Auxiliary Deputy Michael Delaney was the first to respond and make contact with the clerk.
