Two nationally known musical artists will be performing in the Friendly City Memorial Day weekend.
“American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino and R&B artist Tank will headline a show May 24 at the Columbus Fairgrounds. The show will begin at 7:15 p.m. and will feature the two artists and several local modeling students, said event organizer Vanessa Carter.
Advance tickets to the concert are $25, and are available at Bryan”s Records and Pets in Columbus, Gibson”s Barber and Beauty College in West Point, A&A Fashions in Brooksville and Album Alley and McKinney”s Hair Fashions in Tupelo. Tickets also will be available at the event for $30.
Barrino won the third season “American Idol” contest in 2004. She has been nominated for eight Grammy awards, and played Celie in the Broadway adaptation of “The Color Purple.”
Tank, born Durrell Babbs, is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer.
“We invited her to come, and she agreed,” Carter said of Fantasia. “Plus, anyone who goes through the Reflections Modeling Agency classes this weekend and next weekend will get to be a part of the show.”
The modeling classes will be held today and May 22 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday and May 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and will be held to celebrate the upcoming establishment of a branch of the Memphis, Tenn.-based Reflections Modeling Agency in Columbus. The classes cost $100 total.
