D’IBERVILLE — A six-vehicle pileup in D’Iberville left one man hospitalized and another man in jail charged with three counts of felony driving under the influence with injuries.
Police say 32-year-old Thomas Hutto of Vancleave was unable to stop in time to avoid a chain reaction pileup caused by the bumper.
Five people were injured after Hutto’s vehicle hit the pileup.
Police told the Sun Herald a sailor is still in Biloxi Regional with bruised lungs,
Police said the sailor was in the first chain-reaction crash and got out to help other drivers and passengers. He was struck by a vehicle Hutto’s truck had hit.
Another man, a good Samaritan who’d stopped to help, was pinned under Hutto’s truck.
The man, an IP Casino employee who had just gotten off work, suffered a leg injury and burns to his eyes from gasoline and antifreeze but has been released from the hospital.
Hutto suffered a scrape in the accident but refused treatment, police said.
His blood was drawn and charges filed based on officers’ observation of him at the scene.
He was taken to the Harrison County jail on $150,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain. He could face additional charges.
