Columbus police arrested a man early Tuesday morning in the north side of the city for burglary of a vehicle.
The call came in about 2 a.m. reporting a possible break-in at 1224 20th St. N. Police said they responded and saw a man walking in front of the residence in question. When they ordered the man to stop, he fled the scene.
After a brief chase, police caught him near 1215 20th St. N. and found a flathead screwdriver and Pioneer CD player.
After searching the area, police found a 1996 green Mercury vehicle with the front passenger window and back driver’s side corner panel window knocked out. The CD player came from the vehicle, police said.
Michael Lashay Butler, 33, of 1308 20th St. N., was arrested on a charge of burglary of a vehicle.
Cocaine found in traffic stop
A Columbus man was arrested after officers found narcotics in his vehicle.
What started as a routine traffic stop resulted in Columbus K-9 units and agents with Columbus-Lowndes Metro Narcotics Unit responding to the 800 block of Military Road Friday night after Columbus police pulled Virgil Harris’ vehicle over.
According to a news release from the Columbus Police Department, K-9 dog Bowdy indicated to his handler, Officer Wade Beard, that illegal narcotics were present.
Bowdy’s alert gave officers probable cause to search Harris’ vehicle, police said, and they found cocaine, digital scales, around $1,500 in cash and other paraphernalia.
Harris, 21, of 705 Waterworks Road in Columbus, was arrested. Police did not list the charges he faces or the arrest time in the release. Police said Harris was the only occupant in the vehicle.
According to the news release, bond was supposed to be set Monday.
Police were unavailable to answer any more questions regarding the arrest.
