A 41-year-old Crawford woman was released from the hospital after a Wednesday wreck on Highway 82 West. Other crash victims transported to medical facilities remain hospitalized, including a 6-year-old girl who was airlifted to Jackson.
The two-vehicle collision occurred about 1:15 p.m. in the westbound lane of the highway just shy of the Macon-Meridian Highway 45 South exit. The crash involved a blue Honda Accord and a black Dodge car.
“From talking to the (lead) trooper (handling the wreck), he indicated to me her condition was still serious,” Brian Mobley of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said Thursday afternoon of the 6-year-old.
It is unknown which Jackson hospital she was transported to.
Two adults and three children were inside the Accord, and all were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Mobley said the driver of the Accord was Paula Malone, 41, of Crawford. The other adult was Sharita Rogers, 28, of Crawford, who was in the passenger’s seat.
The trooper said two of the three children in the vehicle were unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. One was a 6-year-old girl, and the other was an 11-year-old boy. The third child, a 14-year-old girl, was restrained.
He did not know whether the other two children were still in the hospital.
Mobley classified the injuries of the other four crash victims as moderate and not life-threatening.
Baptist Memorial spokeswoman Donna Grant said Malone was discharged from the hospital and Rogers was transferred to another facility that she did not name.
The driver of the Dodge car was 26-year-old Kristy Handley, of Steens. She was not injured, Mobley said.
The Accord came down the embankment, rolled over at least once and stopped after hitting a tree. The Dodge stopped in a creek running along Highway 82 and came to a stop — front end up.
