Lowndes County authorities are trying to determine the identification of a white male whose body was recovered Saturday afternoon along Bud Price Road.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said the badly decomposed body was pulled from a boat dock.
Police are checking missing persons reports, he said.
“He was caught in an area between the dock and stairs.” Merchant estimated the middle-aged man has been dead for 2 1/2 weeks. No trauma was visible on the body, he said, which was in the water. He said a cause of death is unknown pending further investigation.
Bud Price Road is about seven miles south of the center of Columbus off Nashville Ferry Road East.
The call came in about 1:48 p.m. from a homeowner who found the body lodged in his boat landing, Merchant said. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, District 3 Volunteer Fire Department and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle responded.
A spokesman from the sheriff’s office did not return a phone call seeking comment.
