After nearly two years of work, the Columbus-Lowndes Recreation Authority finally is closing the files on its project of renovating and rehabilitating community centers.
CLRA Executive Director Roger Short Monday told his board members the projects had been completed.
“With the opening of the Crawford Community Center last Saturday, we are finally done with this project,” Short said, noting the renovation of eight community centers represented a $850,000 investment. Funding for the project was provided through a capital improvement venture between the city and county.
The project included renovations to the Crawford, New Hope and Anderson Grove community centers, the Charles Brown basketball pavilion, the Townsend Community Center, East Columbus Gym, Northaven Woods track and pavilion, and Sim Scott Community Center.
CLRA President Matt Hannon commended Short on his role in facilitating the projects.
“You did a great job with this,” Hannon told Short. “You deserve a lot of credit for your role in these projects. What the taxpayers don’t know is that you saved them a lot of money. Every one of these facilities is a show place for its community.”
Short also updated board members on a Lee Park gazebo project.
“The gazebo is almost completed,” Short said. “We will be able to rent it for weddings and other events starting April 1.”
