Classes have resumed at Fairview Elementary Aerospace and Science Magnet School following the ninth bomb threat of the year for the city and county school systems. This marks the second threat for Fairview in two weeks.
Students were taken to Fairview Baptist Church, where they waited while the premises were searched by a canine unit from Columbus Air Force Base. No explosives were found.
This morning marked students’ return from spring break. The threat was made shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, according to Janet Lewis, public information officer for the Columbus Municipal School District. It was not immediately known how the threat was made. The previous threat, which occurred March 9, was called in to the school.
Lewis said Interim Superintendent Dr. Martha Liddell will meet with state education officials Thursday to try to find a solution to what is becoming a frequent problem.
Columbus High School has received four threats this year: March 6, Feb. 22, Feb. 16 and Jan. 27. In September, Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies arrested three juveniles in connection with two bomb threats at New Hope High School and one at Columbus Middle School.
No explosive devices have been found at any of the schools.
