Following a midday Thursday drug bust, authorities removed nearly two and a half pounds of pure cocaine off the streets of Columbus. Led by the Columbus-Lowndes Metro Narcotics Unit, a raid was conducted, around noon Thursday, at a residence at 711 21st St. N. The street value of the cocaine is estimated at $150,000.
The residence was located on a narrow, short street located between 14th Avenue and 13th Avenue, not far from Hunt Intermediate School. Residents of the neighborhood flocked to the streets to watch the arrests of four people found in the home.
Stephanie Grey, of 711 21st St. N., was arrested and charged with attempting to possess more than one kilo of cocaine with intent to distribute; Annie Jones, of 7097 22nd St. N., was arrested and charged with attempting to possess more than one ounce of cocaine with intent to distribute and Lafredric Brooks, of 1104 22nd St. N., was arrested and charged with attempting to possess more than one kilo of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana, less than one ounce. Bond and court dates for Grey, Jones and Brooks are pending.
A juvenile male also was arrested at the scene. He was released into the custody of his parents, but may face charges at a later date.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Drug Enforcement Agency assisted in the raid.
LCSO Commander Bobby Grimes would not comment on the investigation leading to the raid.
“This is a substantial amount of cocaine to be taken off the streets at once,” Grimes said. “This should hurt street level dealers for a while. This was pure cocaine and this will definitely affect street dealers in Lowndes County.
