A man was shot early Sunday while driving on the Highway 82 bypass, but the shooter has not been apprehended, and the Columbus Police Department has no suspects at this time.
The driver was on the bypass, in the area between east Columbus and Military Road, around 3:01 a.m. Sunday, when a person in a sport utility vehicle behind him fired several shots into his vehicle, piercing him in the leg, said Glenda Buckhalter, public information officer for CPD. She said the victim was unsure of any other details about the vehicle.
“Investigators found some shell casings, but there’s no information about who the shooter was.”
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Buckhalter said the incident remains under investigation.
CPD also responded to two auto burglaries Monday.
At 7:02 a.m., officers were called to 310 12th St. N., Apt. 7, where Antwan Cooper told them that overnight, his 1997 Ford Expedition was broken into, and a Kenwood car stereo, valued at $100, was stolen, Buckhalter said.
Later that day, at 4:29 p.m., officers responded to another auto burglary. Barbara Brandon, of 1005 4th Ave. N., told officers her Chrysler 300 was broken into, and an unknown amount of change was stolen from the ashtray, Buckhalter said. The glove compartment had also been broken into, but nothing was taken.
