The Columbus Police Department is investigating an alleged armed robbery. Francisco Marino said he was a guest at the Motel Six at 1203 Hwy 45 N., when he was approached by two black males, while he was outside smoking Tuesday night. Marino reported one of the men asked to borrow his cell phone and, when he returned the phone, the man put a handgun in his face and told him to surrender his phone and wallet. Marino returned to his room unharmed.
The CPD also is investigating the burglary of a commercial building. Benjamin Shelton, owner of Stewart’s Antiques and Appraisals at 925 3rd Ave. N, said he left his business at about 7 a.m. Tuesday and was out of town for the duration of the day. When he returned around 3 p.m., he noticed the bottom glass of his front door had been kicked in. Shelton reported about $50 in change was stolen from the business.
