Local democrats have been chosen for key positions within the state Democratic Party.
Lowndes County District 5 Supervisor Leroy Brooks was selected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, after being chosen during the First Congressional Democratic Caucus March 31 in Oxford.
This will be Brooks’ fourth presidential election as a delegate or alternate.
“I am excited about attending the convention,” said Brooks, who attended the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo. “However, what I appreciate most is the confidence of my peers to select me, when there were such a large number of people vying for the positions.”
The Democratic National Convention will be held Sept. 2 through Sept. 6.
Columbus’ Ward 5 Councilman Kabir Karriem and Ward 2 Councilman Joseph Mickens Sr. were selected to serve on the State Democratic Committee, which is responsible for setting guidelines and developing strategy for the Democratic Party in Mississippi.
The first meeting of the executive committee, which is comprised of 100 members throughout the state, will be held in Jackson on June 30.
