The Starkville Police Department has apprehended a man believed to be responsible for at least six burglaries in the area.
Authur Clay Savoy, 28, of Lafayette, La., has been arrested and charged with four counts of Burglary and one count of Auto Burglary by the Starkville Police Department. He has also been charged with one count of burglary by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives with the SPD served a search warrant on Savoy’s home in the Lakeside Apartment Complex on Wednesday and discovered numerous stolen items from reported burglaries. Among the stolen items were electronics, stereo equipment, flat screen TV’s, jewelry, DVDs, gaming systems, a flashlight, a set of handcuffs and a glass cake platter. The stolen items totaled between $5,000 and $10,000 worth of property, the SPD estimated.
Savoy moved to the Starkville area in the beginning of June and according to SPD Detective Scotty Carrithers, the alleged burglar “moved up here and went right to work.”
Savoy is a wanted fugitive for his alleged role in a burglary in Lafayette and was living in the Lakeside Complex illegally.
Investigators with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the case and state additional arrests and charges are possible.
During his Thursday bond hearing, Savoy received a $25,000 bond per burglary count in the city, totaling a $125,000 bond. As of Friday morning, his bond with the county had not been set.
