A mother’s curiosity lead to the arrest of two men and an assault against a police officer on Wednesday.
Quincy Antonio Beard, 21, of 1814 11th Ave. N, and Zachary Miller, 21, 1610 9th Ave. N, were arrested separately Wednesday and charged with felony burglary of a commercial business, First Columbus Pawn Shop on Highway 45.
Miller, who was being sought for the alleged burglary, was arrested at the Municipal Complex when he accompanied his mother to the police department. The mother wanted to know why there was a heavy police presence in her neighborhood.
When police recognized Miller as a suspect in the burglary and sought to put him in handcuffs, Miller allegedly assaulted the officer. The officer’s partner then physically subdued Miller until he could be handcuffed.
Miller is also being charged with felony assault on a police officer, possession of paraphernalia and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $26,000 on the burglary, possession and resisting arrest charges. His bond has not been set on the assault charge and he is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Beard’s bond was set at $25,000.
The incident is under investigation by the CPD.
