Police have charged Dominique Chambers, 19, of 2422 23rd Ave. North, with the Monday shooting that claimed the life of one Columbus teen and left another man injured.
Alexander “Slug” Brown, 19, died Monday afternoon after sustaining a gunshot wound to the eye. Andre Williams received a gunshot wound to the right shoulder.
Witnesses said shots rang out around 2:30 p.m. near 22nd Ave. and Martin Luther King Dr. in Columbus.
Brown was driven to the hospital in a white Dodge Avenger which was left parked at the entrance to the emergency room. Blood-soaked articles of clothing were found inside the vehicle. The driver’s side rear door panel was also stained with blood.
Family and friends gathered at the entrance of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where Brown was initially given a “50-50” chance of survival.
He died just after 4 p.m.
As news of his death made it’s way through the 50 or so people gathered at the hospital, family members began crying, “Ain’t no way, ain’t no way” and “Oh Jesus, what a day, what a day.”
The case is still under investigation.
