Football season is upon us in Starkville, and so are New South Weekends.
The whole family is invited to the corner of Russell and Lampkin Street on Friday to enjoy the annual Downtown Block Party, the first Friday event on the 2012 New South Weekend schedule.
College Park Shopping center will play host to the event, but the end of Russell Street will also be blocked off.
Though the site has changed (the event was held on Main Street last year) the festivities will be the same, with food vendors, inflatable jumpers for the kids, a tailgating fashion show and live music. Mississippi State University’s beloved mascot, Bully, will make an appearance as well, and a pep rally will kick the event off.
The businesses in the College Park Shopping Center will also be open for late-night shopping.
Chief Operating Officer for the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Jennifer Gregory told the Starkville Board of Aldermen on Tuesday night that she thinks moving the site for the event around gives Starkville’s businesses a platform to engage customers.
“We are just really trying to showcase are other retailers in the city,” she said.
The event is scheduled from 6-8 p.m.
