Corey Lathan was found guilty of burglary and armed robbery in circuit court Thursday.
Lathan, 18, was one of six young men charged with breaking and entering into the apartment of Karen Winter last September.
The men allegedly knocked on the door of Winter’s Sandpiper apartment and when she answered, pushed their way inside and forced Winter to lie face down on the floor while one of the men held a gun to her head. Her television, two laptops, cash, a change jar and other items were stolen.
The group then fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV.
Winter called the police and described the man with the gun as having a blue bandana over his face. She also described a young teen with dreadlocks and a red hoodie.
They were apprehended later by officers with the Columbus Police Department. Officers discovered a gun and laptop inside the vehicle and were led to an apartment where they found the rest of the stolen items.
Demonta Gardner is one of the six men involved in the robbery and was tried in May of this year on the same charges. He was found guilty of burglary and received a 20-year sentence. He was found not guilty of armed robbery.
Lathan will appear before Judge Jim Kitchens this morning for sentencing.
