The Oktibbeha County Sherriff’s Department will look to renew two grants at the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors meeting tonight.
Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett said the grants will mostly be directed to overtime pay for deputies working DUI and seatbelt enforcement, with the seat belt grant totaling $12,500 and the DUI grant providing $22,000 and no match from the county required.
Garnett said funding from the grants, which run from October through September, will be available Oct. 1.
Funds from the grants will be added to the similar amounts granted to the OCSD in May for seat belt and DUI enforcement.
“It’s the same thing really,” he said. “But the new sheriff took over in January and that money wasn’t available until May.”
In other business, County Fire Coordinator Austin Check is set to invite county leaders to fire academy sessions.
Meeting begins at 5:30 tonight in the Oktibbeha County Courthouse.
