A Columbus man has been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana more than one ounce and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Agents with the Columbus-Lowndes Metro Narcotics Unit arrested Justice Charles Calmes, 28, of 406 Warren St., on Friday after they executed a search warrant at his residence.
Once inside the home, agents discovered an SKS assault rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun with a pistol grip, a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a .38 caliber revolver. Calmes also allegedly had approximately a quarter of a pound of marijuana along with $322 in cash. The mid-grade marijuana is worth approximately $300 in street value.
As a convicted felon, Calmes is prohibited by law from possessing firearms. He appeared in Justice Court on Monday and received a $50,000 bond for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and a $10,000 bond for the possession of marijuana more than one ounce charge. He bonded out of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center later Monday.
