The Starkville School District Board of Trustees voted in a specially-called meeting Tuesday to approve the hiring of Jody Jones Woodrum as the new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
Woodrum retired from the Bulloch County, Ga. School District in February after 25 years of educational experience. For the last eight months, she has been working with Scientific Learning as a consultant and with the company’s professional development.
Superintendent Lewis Holloway worked with Woodrum for five years in the BCSD in Georgia and said he could think of no one better suited for the Starkville School District than Woodrum, who begins her new role immediately.
“There is no one in the nation (who) is better aligned with what we are doing,” Holloway said. “Jody can get to the details and do the hard work of getting in and working out the issues. I know her work will speak for itself.”
As a former Scientific Learning consultant, Woodrum will be especially important on issues related to technology, Holloway said, referring to several programs in use by the school, including Scientific Learning’s FastForWord, Compass Odyssey and MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessments.
Holloway also touted Woodrum’s ability to analyze data from these programs.
“She knows Fast ForWord better than FastForWord,” he said. “She knows Compass Odyssey better than Compass Odyssey.
“Jody is fully versed in putting the data to use as we get it in the next few weeks.”
