Nicole Pounders, RN, BSN has been named director of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle’s education department. She will oversee nursing and staff education, orientation of all newly-hired nursing staff and other duties.
A native of Columbus, Pounders received an associate’s degree in general studies from East Mississippi Community College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women. She began her nursing career at Baptist as a student nurse/extern in the Critical Care Unit in 2004. She went to work as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit in May 2005. She also worked as a nurse in Express Admissions, where she enhanced the inpatient admission process by directing care to the patients’ bedsides on all units following admission from physicians’ offices, surgery and/or the emergency department.
In June 2006, she transferred to the education department, where she became a nurse educator. She stepped up to interim director after then-director Lauri Sansing became director of the Emergency Room, Critical Care and Progressive Care Units in April 2012.
