STARKVILLE -- A man awaiting trial on a murder charge is a suspect in a shooting that left one man injured in a Starkville trailer park Tuesday night.
Dennis Thompson, 20, turned himself in at the Starkville Police Department Wednesday evening in connection with a shooting that occurred in Lot 5 of the Yellow Jacket Trailer Park on 903 1/2 Louisville Street in Starkville.
The male victim in the shooting was shot once with an unknown caliber weapon. His injuries were not life threatening. When officers with the Starkville Police Department arrived on scene, witnesses named Thompson as the shooter.
Thompson fled the scene before officers arrived.
Further details, including the relationship between Thompson and the victim, are not being released as the incident is still under investigation. Thompson will be charged with aggravated assault.
He is currently out on a $300,000 bond for a murder that occurred in May 2010 where he allegedly shot and killed Curtis "C.K." Randle.
Thompson, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, allegedly shot Randall with a .40 caliber pistol. He also allegedly shot Starkville High School students Devier Outlaw in the arm and abdomen and Azaria Ross in the thigh. Tony Vincent Harris, an East Oktibbeha High School student, was also shot in the abdomen in the incident.
Thompson's parents claimed their son was the subject of gang intimidation. They maintained their son shot the four young men in self defense.
A grand jury indicted Thompson on the murder in January 2011. He was also indicted on three aggravated assault charges.
Represented by Chuck Lumumba, Thompson's trial has been continued six times.
He is set to appear in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court to face the murder charge and three aggravated assault charges in the next circuit court term in January 2013. His bond is set at $100,000 for the Tuesday shooting incident.
