A Wednesday afternoon traffic stop resulted in the arrest of nine people, six on methamphetamine charges.
Agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit pulled over a vehicle driven by Stephen Knight in front of Country Mart on Hwy. 82 in New Hope. A search of the vehicle produced a quarter-ounce of crystal meth and various drug paraphernalia. Knight, Christal Flowers Roper, Todd Canida and Scott Cook were each arrested for possession of methamphetamine. The ages and addresses of the four were not known at press time.
The traffic stop led to the execution of a search warrant at 6129 Hwy 182 E, where four people were arrested for disorderly conduct, including two juveniles. The homeowner, Brittany York, was one of the four arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The four were transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center where York bonded out and came back to the home.
Once back at her residence, she was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute after agents discovered 24 grams of meth packaged and ready to be sold inside her home. The meth has approximately $2,500 to $3,500 in street value.
Brittany York’s husband, Chris York was also arrested on scene. However, Chris York has a blood disorder and asked to be taken to the emergency room. After he was released from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, he was taken in to custody.
Sheriff Mike Arledge said the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and manufacturing of methamphetamine in Lowndes County.
“We’re going to continue to be aggressive in the fight of drugs,” Arledge said. “This is just another example of good police work by the deputies and narcotics agents.”
Arledge said the investigation is ongoing and as more evidence comes to light there is the possibly of seeking assistance from the Attorney General’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
This is second incident in a week of the narcotics unit arresting people for methamphetamine. Kerby Dies was arrested for on Monday for manufacturing methamphetamine and burglary and Brianna Reynolds was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. The York residence was wired for video and audio surveillance.
