Almost 1,000 Columbus residents were without electricity for more than five hours Easter Sunday after officials believe lightning struck a power pole.
The outage occurred just after 4 p.m. Sunday when lightning struck a pole near the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 373.
The outage affected residents in the Ridge Road area from Pennington Lake Road to Perkins Road. Spivey Road and the Sherwood Forest area were also affected by the outage.
Workers from 4-County Electric Power association worked diligently on the downed line but restoring the power took longer than expected due to a delay involving underground power lines. 4-County kept subscribers updated throughout the incident via their Facebook page.
“We are waiting for gas and water workers to locate underground lines so we can replace our pole. When that is complete we should be able to restore power fairly quickly,” the page read around 8 p.m.
Power was restored to all residents by 9:30.
