The Town of Caledonia is without a town clerk once more.
The board of aldermen Tuesday night unanimously approved the resignation of acting clerk Krista Hill, who began Feb. 1. Hill filed a workplace harassment complaint Feb. 26, alleging Mayor George Gerhart and political candidate William Darnell had engaged in indecent language and sexual comments that made her uncomfortable. Darnell withdrew his candidacy shortly afterward.
Sources close to The Dispatch say Hill's resignation was filed Monday after she allegedly overheard Gerhart speaking disparagingly of her while talking on the telephone with another mayor.
Gerhart was not present for Monday night's meeting.
Hill had been hired to replace her grandmother, longtime town clerk Judy Whitcomb, who retired in January. The aldermen voted unanimously to rehire Whitcomb part-time to process checks and handle other duties. She will be paid $15.25 per hour for 10 hours or fewer per week.
The board also voted to hire Missy Duncan at $10 per hour to answer the telephone at Town Hall, and they agreed to include all of the aldermen's names on the town credit card so they can make sure business continues as usual during the workplace changes and upcoming municipal election June 4.
In other news, the board took the following actions:
■ Voted to allow election commissioner Ken Byars and members of the election committee to attend a required training session in Brandon;
■ Approved the June municipal election ballot and voted to have it printed by one of three approved printers;
■ Approved Town Marshal Ben Kilgore's request for a key to town hall after his key stopped working due to a lock change.
■ Voted to have the town gazebo repaired at a cost not to exceed $2,000.
The board of aldermen will meet again Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m.
