JACKSON — Chancery courts in Lowndes, Webster and Clay counties are expected to be next to test electronic filing of court documents although an exact date has not been announced.
On March 18, electronic filing became mandatory in Grenada County Chancery Court. On March 4, chancery courts in Holmes and Yazoo counties were brought online. Rankin County chancery court joined Feb. 4. Electronic filing also is in place in DeSoto, Harrison, Holmes and Yazoo counties.
The Mississippi Supreme Court began moving toward electronic filing in 2005, and the Madison County Chancery Court became the first to go digital three years later.
Right now, the Mississippi Electronic Court system is used only for civil cases.
The system was modeled after PACER, the federal courts’ e-filing database.
