The Commercial Dispatch received three awards Saturday in the Louisiana-Mississippi Press Managing Editors annual newspaper competition for writing, photography and digital content produced during 2012.
Dispatch managing editor Slim Smith was awarded first place personal column for “Three miles in Savely’s shoes,” “Spears has much to learn” and “Allgood’s 60 percent.”
He received third place in editorials for “When a child is sexually assaulted,” “Can we send them to bed without dessert?” and “The end is near, but keep reading.”
Dispatch news editor Carmen Sisson received first place in feature writing for “A promise kept: Columbus native returns home to honor parents.”
The awards were presented Saturday at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. The contest was judged by AP member newspaper editors from Utah, Washington and Idaho.
