Surveillance footage shows similarities with two Starkville robberies this week, but investigators are not yet sure if the incidents are related, Starkville Police Chief David Lindley said.
SPD is still searching for suspects involved in the Monday and Thursday robberies.
Yesterday, a man wearing a mask and coat entered Cash Till, located at 1011 Louisville St., and demanded money from an employee about 2:15 p.m. The worker activated an alarm, Lindley said, and the suspect abandoned the robbery.
SPD set up a perimeter shortly after the alarm was sounded but could not locate the suspect. It is not believed he was armed, Lindley said.
Starkville School District officials locked down Starkville High School about 2:30 p.m. as police searched for a suspect, SSD Public Information Officer Nicole Thomas confirmed. The lockdown was issued as a precaution even though neither the school nor its students faced any direct threat.
"Starkville School District is committed to taking every step possible in ensuring our children's safety," Thomas said after the 30-minute lockdown was lifted.
Another robbery was caught on camera Monday night at the Shell gas station on the corner of Miss. Highway 12 and Jackson Street. A suspect -- described by SPD as a white male, about 19-24 years old -- demanded cash from a gas station employee and then fled east on the highway by foot.
An SPD release further describes the suspect as clean-shaven and wearing a light-blue shirt under a camouflaged jacket. He also wore a camouflaged hat, the release states.
Eye witnessed stated the male entered the building with a small gun concealed in his right sleeve, according to a SPD release.
No injuries were reported from either robbery.
If you have any information about the two incidents, please call SPD at (662) 323-0393 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
