The Associated Press

JACKSON -- Jackson police say an officer fired his gun at a suspect who allegedly tried to run the officer over.

The shooting happened about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday on the Interstate 55 Frontage Road.

Police had answered a call about a man allegedly trying to sell a stolen vehicle to a business in the area.

By the time an officer arrived, the man allegedly was behind the wheel of another car. Jackson police say the unidentified man tried to run over the officer, who fired three times, striking the suspect twice.

The suspect was hospitalized. His name and condition have not been released.
