A Lowndes County toddler has been reunited with his mother after he was discovered wandering alone on a road near Highway 69 South Tuesday morning.

E-911 dispatchers received a call at 8:34 a.m. Tuesday after a concerned citizen saw a young child walking by himself on Hildreth Road in New Hope, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear.

When deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department arrived on scene, they estimated the child to be approximatelythree-years -old. Due to his age, he was unable to tell law enforcement where he lived, and the Department of Human Services was called to the scene to take care of the young boy.

After a two-and-a-half-hour search, the boy's mother was located at her home on Thornton Drive, a mile from where the child was discovered.

According to Chief Deputy Marc Miley, the mother was asleep and was not aware that her child had wandered off. Miley said the mother was cited for contributing to the neglect of a child.

A similar situation happened this morning when two children, ages four and five, were discovered walking down Nashville Ferry road just after 7 a.m. Deputies arrived on scene and the children were able to tell law enforcement where they lived. They were escorted home.

As of press time, Miley had no more information on the incident.
