Relax, Wendy’s customers.
Although demolition crews began knocking down the restaurant Tuesday, the move is being made only to make room for an updated Wendy’s at the same location on Highway 45 North in Columbus.
The new Wendy’s should be open in three months, company officials said Tuesday.
Wendy’s Assistant Manager Bernard Buckhalter said he is excited about the new store.
“It’s going to be more modern,” Buckhalter said. “It’s the first to open in the Southeast like it.”
Built in the 1970s, the 3,200-square-foot building has been renovated at least twice, Buckhalter said.
“It’s an old store,” Buckhalter said. “They’ve been planning on doing this for a long time.”
The new Wendy’s will be built in an “ultra contemporary” style and will offer more seating for diner in the 3,800 square foot building.
The demolition and renovation is being handled by the Carlisle Corporation.
Don Nichols, Vice President of Real Estate and Development for the Carlisle Corporation, said the restaurant will still have a single drive-through window but will offer a larger, more convenient parking lot.
“The new site plan provides separation between the dining room customer experience parking and those customers that want to utilize the pick-up window service,” Nichols said. “This should provide easier access and much more positive experience with the new building.”
In addition to a larger drive-through window and additional seating, the new building will also offer fireplaces and digital menu boards.
Weather permitting, the project should be completed by October.
