Emmerich to start weekly newspaper in Hattiesburg

The Associated Press

HATTIESBURG -- Emmerich Newspapers will launch a new weekly newspaper in Hattiesburg Thursday.

The Hattiesburg Post will add to Emmerich's stable of 25 daily and weekly newspapers elsewhere in the state. It will compete with Gannett Co.'s daily newspaper, the Hattiesburg American.

The company owns weekly newspapers serving Petal, Lamar County and Camp Shelby and also publishes a magazine in Hattiesburg.

The newspaper will be published by David Gustafson. David Breland will be the news editor of the new paper and sister publications.

Gustafson says the newspaper will be published in three sections each week and the company will mail free copies to residents over the next few months. The paper will also be bundled with The Lamar Times and The Petal News.

Emmerich bought the Kosciusko Star-Herald earlier this year.
