Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle will be hosting a breast cancer luncheon Wednesday as part of its ongoing series during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. In 2013, the ACS estimates 232,340 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer with 39,620 women dying from the disease.
This week’s luncheon at the hospital will focus on how fitness and exercise can improve women’s overall breast health. Beth Jeffers, owner of The Fitness Factor in Columbus, will be the keynote speaker.
Megan Pratt, Director of Marketing with BMH-GT, encouraged women to attend the free event.
“Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle realizes how important it is to educate women about breast cancer, especially prevention and early detection,” she said. “We are focusing on giving women as much information as we can to help women reduce their risk. We encourage women to attend our upcoming free community education programs on Oct. 16 and 30 to learn more about this disease that will strike one in eight women.”
The luncheon will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in rooms four and five in the patient tower. Lunch is provided.
